On the second day, this is what I had for breakfast. It's cantaloupe, honeydew melon, grapes, pineapple, and a strawberry. I don't normally like pineapple because they are too acidy on the mainland, but in Hawaii, they are SWEET. I learned I like Maui Gold pineapples.
The Zoo was right across from our hotel, so we decided to head there since we LOVE going to different zoos. In case you can't quite read the sign, it says "this is the best Zoo to be found for 2300 miles in any direction".
And look, the Seattle Zoo is on their list, but it's 2678 miles away.
Flamingos right inside the entrance to the zoo... a nice way to be greeted.
These turtles were in the water of the lemur exhibit. I thought they were fake statues than you can buy to put on your logs in your landscaping at home... until Jason saw one blink or move his head or something. They were just sunning themselves, but I was amazed at how still they were!

This is a black and white lemur... it's kind of hard to tell, but he's reclining on the rock behind him... just enjoying himself and putting on a show for the humans... aka us.
I forgot what these things are called, but it starts with a G. They're very strange looking with their extremely this noses.
The hippos... at least we could see them while they were in the water. I kind of wish we could have seen them out of the water so we could tell how big they actually were.
Some random animals all together. Jason wanted me to take a picture because the "pelican is huge!" So I made sure to get that deer in the picture too, for a comparison.
Warthog, anyone?
Just like most other zoos, the peacocks were everywhere, wandering around.
They even had their babies with them... I've never seen a baby peacock before.
The giraffe, rhino, zebra exhibit. Rhinos are HUGE, and the giraffes were having some dominancy wars... at least that's what it looked like. Two of the giraffes were neck wrestling and hitting each other with the horns on their heads.
Cheetah.
This tiger was really cool. He kept pacing back and forth in front of us.
Yes, there is glass between me and him, but not much really. I didn't zoom in for this picture... his head was really RIGHT THERE. VERY large animal!
Tortoises. I wish there was something next to him to be able to tell how big he is, but there wasn't anything close to him. He was the biggest one of the bunch.
I thought it was interesting, and somewhat sad, that they had a meerkat exhibit with a sign that said, due to old age and health complications, our meerkat has died. MeerKAT... not katS... which means they only had one to begin with! Heck, the zoos around here have an entire meerkat exhibit with tons of little guys running around; the meerkat in Hawaii probably died from loneliness! They also had two really really old lions. They were really thin and just laid there... there was a sign at their exhibit too that read something like, we are trying to keep the lions comfortable in their old age. Pretty much, we're waiting for them to die because they are so old... how sad. I think there was one other animal exhibit that was empty because their animal died, but I don't remember which is was.

And here's a picture of the lifeguard tower and their surfboard. Notice the cones on the beach? Those are so the beach goers don't set up camp right in front of the tower, so if the lifeguard has to go rescue, they don't have to run through anyone, they can just run, grab their surfboard, and go. I took the picture on our walk down to the Waikiki Aquarium, which will be in my next post.
There's the zoo. Like I said, the aquarium will be in my next post, but there are just too many pictures all in one post to continue with a bunch of pictures of tropical fish too. I promise there will be a couple of pictures of us in the next post too!
And we saw camels. They had camel rides (which we did not take part in), and the baby camels were out in front to pet if you wanted. This particular baby decided to give Ruston the up close and personal.
I'm not really sure what Ruston thought, but he was definitely curious, as you can tell by his face! Haha
We saw GIANT lions... the male was laying down, so we settled for a good picture of this female. The picture really doesn't do it justice... her paws were HUGE.
White rhinos. They were also huge.
I sense a theme... this was a HUGE bird... a condor. Once again, the picture just doesn't do it justice.
Same with these tortoises. I thought it was funny that they just put posts in the ground as a fence since they can't get their shells through that.
Ruston also slept through part of the zoo lol. You can tell he was definitely enjoying it! :)
We stopped to eat, and between every bite Ruston would make this face. He does make a good fishy!!!
We had a good little weekend together as a family, and Ruston's first experience sleeping overnight away from home. He is a BED HOG!!
